About the Treatments

Relaxing Oil Massage

For those who want a purely pleasurable treatment, to calm the body and mind, I offer a relaxing massage. Flowing strokes are used to soothe the nerves endings in the skin, warm the muscles and stimulate circulation to flush toxins from the tissues. Gentle, compassionate touch releases endorphins and allows the mind to let go. I use fractionated coconut oil, which is light and easily absorbed, as well as being hypoallergenic.

Deep Tissue Massage

To treat muscle stiffness, fatigue and knotting, I use deep tissue massage, myofascial release and neuromuscular technique to identify areas of tension in the body, and encourage them to release.

RSI Treatment

Palpation, stretching and soft tissue release are applied to the tendons and muscles, which can prevent occurrence or recurrence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tennis Elbow and Golfers Elbow, and treat chronic conditions.

Pulsing

A very enjoyable form of bodywork based in a continuous, rhythmic rocking, creating a sense of care and security. Stretching, lifting and rotating movements can gently release emotional and muscular tension, increase flexibility, foster deeper breathing and meet the need for nurturance through touch. Find out more about pulsing at pulsing.org.uk.

Indian Head Massage

Passed down through families in India for thousands of years, Indian Head Massage is traditionally a very rigorous and stimulating scalp massage. The version I practice has been adapted for the West, and is a gentler form that incorporates shoulder, neck and face massage, as well as the scalp, all without the use of oil. The massage addresses the areas where many of us hold tension, gently releasing the muscles and connective tissue. It can also feel wonderful to have our hair, scalp and face massaged, making this a surprisingly relaxing and enjoyable treatment.

Thai Massage

With a history going back 2,500 years to Buddha’s physician, Shivaga Kumar Bhaccha, Thai Massage has its roots in Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine and Thai Herbal Pharmacy. It is sometimes called Thai Yoga Massage and can have many of the same benefits as yoga— releasing physical and emotional tension, improving flexibility, promoting deeper breathing and calming the mind. I use my whole body to stretch your body and massage the energy lines (called Sen lines), in a flowing and dynamic sequence of moves.

Thai Herbal Compress

Thai Herbal Compress involves massaging the body with herbs tied in a muslin cloth and steamed to heat them and release their healing properties. The herbs used (kassumunar, kaffir lime, lemongrass and camphor among others) sooth muscle pain and stiffness, nourish the skin and are anti-inflammatory. They also smell wonderful! The heat penetrates into the tissues, giving a deeply relaxing yet very gentle massage.

Thai Herbal Compress can also be combined with Thai Massage.

Massage for Menstruation

A tailored combination of Thai Massage and Herbal Compress to address pre-menstrual abdominal pain, constipation, back pain, tender breasts and emotional changes.

Thai Foot Massage

A recent import from China to Thailand, Thai Foot Massage has proven to be popular and effective. It’s performed with oil and cream, and covers the whole foot and lower leg. I use thumbs, knuckles, palms and a wooden massage stick to press, stroke and occasionally pummel the feet, working on the reflex points and energy lines to affect the whole body. It is incredibly relaxing—I personally haven’t managed to stay awake while receiving a foot massage yet!

Facial Massage

A unique blend of Swedish, Indian Head and Thai Massage facial techniques combine to give a truly blissful treatment. The optional compress treatment at the end of the massage uses gentle heat and specially chosen herbs to nourish the face.

Healing Hands Massage:

A combination treatment created specifically for the Healing Hands Network. The 1½ hour session starts with a head massage to ease stress and tension. I then move to the feet, working the sen lines and reflex points to balance and relax the body. Finally I massage the hands; hands are often overlooked, but are in constant use so appreciate some TLC. And because of the high density of nerve endings, it feels great. 50% of the price of this treatment goes to the Healing Hands Network.

What to expect after your treatment:

You will be given time after the massage to allow the effects to sink in, before getting up from the table or mat, and again before leaving the treatment space.

After your massage you should feel calm and relaxed. This may cause temporary feelings of sleepiness or fatigue.

If possible, take some quiet time for yourself after the massage to fully experience the benefits.

If you do have to drive straight away, take particular care and be vigilant.

The muscles and joints of the areas treated should feel looser and more flexible.

After a vigorous massage, you may experience aching in the areas treated; this should fade within 24 hours

As the body is stimulated to expel toxins, urine production will increase.

You may feel thirsty, and it is recommended you drink plenty of water after the treatment to help flush out toxins.

You may have an increase in bowel movements.

At times massage can produce a heightening of emotions and teariness; if this occurs be compassionate with yourself and take time to acknowledge the feelings.

Occasionally massage can cause flu-like symptoms or headache for up to 24 hours.

Massage is not suitable is some circumstances, such as early pregnancy or while taking certain drugs. If you have any concerns about whether massage is appropriate for you, or any other questions, please discuss with me prior to your appointment.

Lucinda has some of the most healing hands I have ever experienced. — Kim

Aching arm, painful to use from too much time working on a computer. Twenty minutes of attention and it’s all a thing of the past. Much recommended. — Martin

I recently had the pleasure of having several massages from Lucinda while on the Greek island of Lefkas. She created a beautiful healing space for her work and was a calm and welcoming presence. I decided to try several different massages during her residency on the island—Thai Yoga Massage, Full Body Oil Massage, the Thai Foot Massage and the Facial Massage. They were all wonderfully relaxing and I felt so much better (spiritually and physically) after Lucinda's attention. She really does have 'magic hands' and I would urge everyone to try one of her massages. — Janine

I had the one and a half hour full body oil massage which was amazing. I didn't walk away from the massage, I floated, and the effects of the massage stayed with me for the rest of the day. If you are going for this massage I highly recommend booking the day for yourself so you can bask in the blissful feeling all day, so you get the full benefits. Don't be fooled by Lucinda's slight frame—those fingers and hands are very powerful for getting to the places that need some deep tissue work! One happy customer. — Karen

I had a Thai Compress massage with Lucinda. I have had other massages in the past and thought they were ok, but was never really that bothered. However, I had an inflamed hip and I liked the idea of a massage using a hot compress. The massage was absolutely amazing, it completely relaxed me and the heat and the smell of the herbs was just a perfect combination. Lucinda made me feel completely at ease and I would definitely recommend her for anyone who wants to remove the stresses of everyday life! Denise
